Advice

Found a Cat?

Situation

  • The cat is clean.
  • The cat appears healthy.
  • The cat comes and goes.

Action

Leave it alone!

Situation

  • The cat is outside all day and all night and never leaves.
  • The cat's health is worse since the first sighting.

Action

  • Provide food
  • Provide shelter
  • Contact Scan Angels to find someone who can scan for a microchip to see if it has an owner
  • Seek advice from a vet, if your concerned take the cat to your local vet and they will be able to help. Don’t be afraid to ask them. Follow vet advice.
  • Contact a rescue centre if you fear that the cat needs further help and support

Situation

  • The cat appears to be in poor health.
  • The cat appears to be injured.

Action

Take it to a vet!

  • If you are able to catch it or entice it into a carrier, take it straight to your local vets for urgent help. The vets will scan the animal.
  • If you can’t get close to the cat, or it’s aggressive due to being scared or ill, call a rescue who can come and set a trap. Once trapped either the rescue will take over or you can take to the vets.

Situation

  • The cat is deceased

Action

Take it to a vet or rescue centre so it can be scanned for a microchip

If you are not able to do this please report the details to your local council.

Don’t assumed the cat will be scanned for a microchip. Request it to be sure

Important- in any case, don’t be afraid to ask for help. A veterinary practice has a duty of care to help.

Microchip checks

Rescue Centres can come out and scan a cat. Just google "Cat and Animal Rescues" in your area and give them a call.

Scan Angels are a group of volunteers that are dedicated to scanning cats and reuniting them the with owners.
