We always get asked "which cat carrier do you recommend"
The simple answer is metal or stainless steel top loader cat carriers.
These are the carriers that all vets and rescue use. I’ll explain why...
Secure is best!
Simply put they are the securest carrier. Whilst your furry friend is attempting their best efforts to escape you can rest easy knowing it’s Houdini proof!
They are top loaders. This is so much easier to put your cat in from the top rather than the side loaders. So hopefully the struggle of the cat carrier is far less stressful.
Metal cat carriers come coated with a plastic. Whilst they may not look the prettiest, these carriers made from these materials will be strong, robust and secure. They are lightweight, easy to clean and disinfect inside and out. They allow a sufficient air flow and allow your cat to see out.
The metal carrier comes with a removable base which you can make nice and cosy with furry blankets and towels when travelling. The base is easy to remove and clean in the even of any little accidents.
Whilst we all know that every cat hates the cat carrier, these can come with travel hoods which enclose the carrier making it less scary and easy for the cat, if they are scared, timid or frightened.
It’s always a good idea to make sure that the cat has enough room to move around inside so it doesn’t feel restricted. We suggest getting a large or extra large carrier depending on your cats size.
If you have rehomed kittens, we suggest purchasing an extra large cat carrier so they will be able to use it when they are fully grown, so you’re only purchasing it once.
These metal cat carriers will last you a lifetime. So whist the initial cost is expensive it’s worth it in the long run. Safe, secure, Houdini proof and lightweight. This is why all rescues and vets use them.
